David Petlin Finds a Luxury Escape at Rosewood Baha Mar

David Petlin Finds a Luxury Escape at Rosewood Baha Mar

From elevated poolside bites to flamingo yoga at sunrise, I discovered why this Bahamas resort is a destination unto itself.

I'll admit it: I had reservations about the Bahamas. Thirty years ago, just out of college, I visited Nassau and the food was a real challenge. That memory stuck with me. So when Rosewood invited me to experience Baha Mar before the ILTM conference, I was curious but skeptical. Could a Caribbean resort really deliver the elevated, luxury experience my clients expect?

What I found completely rewired how I think about this destination. Rosewood Baha Mar isn't just a hotel in the Bahamas. It is the destination.

A Culinary Revelation

Let me start with what surprised me most: the food. Every single restaurant we ate at was phenomenal. Cafe Boulud, Daniel Boulud's signature French restaurant on property, served a mushroom chicken that was genuinely to die for. We had a lovely dinner there, and I returned for lunch because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Then there was Costa, the Mexican restaurant where we did a margarita-making class with one of the top bartenders in all of Mexico, brought in from Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. The chef came out, explained the dishes, shared recipes from home, and demonstrated cooking techniques while we ate. As someone who really judges Mexican food, I was blown away.

But here's what truly shifted my perspective: even the pool service was elevated. I ordered chicken tenders by the pool, expecting standard resort fare. Instead, I got something genuinely delicious. The entire Baha Mar complex has over 40 restaurants and bars, and every place we tried delivered. At Shuang Ba, the Chinese restaurant in the casino, the Szechuan chicken was some of the best I've ever had. I found it hard to stop eating.

Flamingo Yoga and Finding Serenity

The moment I keep telling people about? Flamingo yoga. On Sunday mornings, Rosewood offers an instructor-led yoga session where they bring out flamingos from their collection. These exotic birds simply walk around and interact with you while you practice. It sounds quirky, but there was something genuinely peaceful and relaxing about sharing that space with them. It's the kind of experience that makes a trip memorable, the kind of detail I couldn't have known about without being there firsthand.

What I really appreciated about Rosewood was how it functions as a quiet sanctuary within the larger Baha Mar complex. Guests staying at Rosewood get access to the entire property, including the pools, beaches, water park, and even the adults-only pool at the SLS. So teens or young adults might want to go party at the livelier pools, then return to the calm sophistication of Rosewood. Multi-generational families can let kids explore Baha Bay while parents relax at Baha Beach Club with a cabana. You get the best of both worlds.

Who This Is For

Rosewood Baha Mar is perfect for anyone wanting a luxury getaway with amazing spa treatments, excellent food, a gorgeous beach, and that elevated five-star experience. It works beautifully for couples, families with kids of different ages, and multi-generational groups. The two and three bedroom suites are spectacular for extended families traveling together. The kids club keeps younger ones entertained while teens can explore independently, and everyone comes back to truly comfortable rooms and really comfortable beds.

I would not recommend this for travelers on a tight budget. The food and drinks are expensive, and while as a Rosewood Elite member I can offer clients complimentary breakfast and a resort credit, lunches and dinners throughout the resort add up.

What I Now Know

Having experienced this myself, I understand something I couldn't have grasped otherwise: this is the perfect four-day weekend getaway. It's close to the airport, so you really just land and go. Spend four days at this gorgeous resort with the water park, golfing, casino, water sports, and you never need to leave. I won't be selling this as "Do you want to go to Nassau?" I'll be asking clients, "Do you want to go to Rosewood Baha Mar?" Because the resort is the destination.

One practical note: if clients are drawn to that flamingo yoga experience, I know now to make sure they're staying Saturday through Monday, since it only happens on Sundays. These are the nuances that matter, the kind of firsthand knowledge that helps me serve my clients above and beyond. I truly felt this trip changed how I'll recommend this destination, and I cannot wait to send the right clients here.

FAQ's

According to a firsthand advisor review, Rosewood Baha Mar delivers a genuine five-star experience across dining, spa, beach, and accommodation. The resort functions as a quiet sanctuary within the larger Baha Mar complex, giving guests access to over 40 restaurants and bars, multiple pools, and a water park. The advisor describes it as a destination unto itself rather than simply a hotel in Nassau.

Flamingo yoga is a Sunday-morning yoga session at Rosewood Baha Mar where live flamingos from the resort's own collection walk freely among participants during the class. The experience is described as genuinely peaceful and memorable. Guests who want to take part should plan to stay at least from Saturday through Monday to ensure they are on property for the Sunday session.

Dining is highlighted as one of the resort's greatest strengths. Standout options include Cafe Boulud, Daniel Boulud's French restaurant on site, Costa for elevated Mexican cuisine, and Shuang Ba for Szechuan dishes in the casino. Even poolside food service is described as well above the standard resort fare, and every restaurant visited during the trip impressed the reviewing advisor.

The resort is well suited to multi-generational and mixed-age family travel. Younger children can enjoy Baha Bay water park and the kids club, teenagers can access livelier pools including the adults-only SLS pool, and parents can relax at Baha Beach Club with a cabana. Two- and three-bedroom suites are noted as particularly well configured for extended family groups.

The advisor recommends a four-day weekend as the ideal length of stay. The resort sits close to Nassau's airport, making arrival straightforward, and the combination of golf, casino, water sports, water park, spa, and dining means guests have no need to venture elsewhere. A Saturday-to-Monday stay is also the minimum needed to catch the Sunday flamingo yoga session.

The resort is not recommended for travellers watching their spending closely. Food and drink costs across the property are described as high, and expenses at multiple restaurants across a multi-day stay can accumulate quickly. Guests who book through a Rosewood Elite travel advisor may be eligible for complimentary breakfast and a resort credit, which can help offset some daily costs.

Rosewood Baha Mar is positioned as the quieter, more sophisticated option within the larger Baha Mar complex, which also includes the SLS and Grand Hyatt. Rosewood guests retain full access to the shared beaches, pools, water park, and casino, while returning to a calmer, more refined base. This balance of lively resort amenities and upscale sanctuary appeal is identified as the property's defining advantage.
